Dear reader,

I would like to address you personally for a moment. A great sporting challenge awaits me soon. As one of 24 participants from all over the world, I will be taking part in 'The Race to the Wreck' in Namibia. This challenge involves mountain biking 200 kilometres and running 120 kilometres through and over the largest sand dunes on earth in the Namib Naukluft Desert, with the Eduard Bohlen shipwreck anchored in the desert as the final destination. My goal is to raise as much money as possible by cycling and running for Child & Burn Foundation so that they are in
for children with burns.

"Not being a victim for a while

In the download I introduce you to Wende, a tough girl who looks so proudly into the camera in all the photos. She is the daughter of one of our employees. Two years ago she suffered serious burns in a car accident. After a long, very intense time in the Burns Centre in Beverwijk, where she underwent many painful operations and changes of bandages, she bravely picked up her life again. A life that is uninvited by her scars, staring looks and harsh, hurtful reactions. Soon, Wende will undergo a very drastic operation to regain the hair on the right side of her head. This is one of the many recovery operations that will remain a permanent part
part of her life. Because scars do not grow.

Especially for children like Wende, the Child & Burn Foundation organises holiday weeks and activities to help them accept their scars and regain their self-confidence, wrapped up in carefree fun. This year, Wende went along for the first time. She enjoyed it so much that she didn't want to go home again. Being a victim for a while' is a frequently heard comment from participants about the holiday weeks. Because what could be better than being able to be yourself and share experiences with other children who have gone through the same thing? After all, they know what it is like to have scars. Children flourish and go home full of self-confidence. These weeks have an effect!

I would love your support so that we can help children like Wende deal with their scars so that they can look to the future with confidence. Please open the attachment to this message and make a contribution by clicking on the red button in the message.

On behalf of all the children, thank you very much!

With sporting salute,
